If hair loss is one of your main hair concerns, you’ve probably heard of Aminexil, a key ingredient in many hair loss products. But do you know what Aminexil is, and if it is right for you? Keep reading to learn more about this ingredient, and the products where you can find it!
What is Aminexil for hair loss?
The first thing you need to know about Aminexil is that it’s a patented ingredient by the L’Oréal Group–you can find it in the ingredient lists of the group’s anti-hair loss products under the name “diaminopyrimidine oxide”. In other instances, it’s known as Kopexil.
Aminexil is an analogous compound to Minexidil, a medicine applied topically for the treatment of hair loss; it is not, however, a medicine, and should not be viewed as such.
According to the L’Oréal Group, Aminexil acts on the collagen around the hair follicle, favoring the anchorage of the hair to the scalp; this should help prevent further hair loss in people who are already experiencing it. It can be used by both men and women.
What products contain Aminexil?
As we have already mentioned, Aminexil is a patented molecule from the L’Oréal Group, so you can find it in the brand’s anti-hair loss products. We’ll help you look through some of them below:
L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Aminexil Advanced
L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert offers the Aminexil Advanced range, which, as the name suggests, is formulated around the properties of the key ingredient Aminexil. The range includes a serum and a set of ampoules, all designed for use on the scalp.
The serum contains 1.5% Aminexil, which acts on the scalp proteins to reinforce the fixation of the hair roots. The ampoules also contain an Omega 6 derivative, which helps nourish the hair fiber. When used in combination with other products from the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert ranges–for example, the L’Oréal Professionnel Serioxyl Advanced Densifying Shampoo and the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Scalp Advanced Anti-Discomfort Treatment, the results of these products are visible after 6 weeks: visibly stronger and denser hair, according to the men who tried them.
Vichy Dercos Aminexil Clinical 5
One of the best-known Aminexil products out there are the Vichy Dercos Aminexil Clinical 5 ampoules, available in two versions: for men and women. In order to target the multiple factors associated with hair loss, these ampoules combine Aminexil with five other active ingredients, which vary between the two versions of the product.
In addition to Aminexil, the men’s version includes arginine, SP94, caffeine, and octeine; the women’s version includes arginine, SPF94, vitamins B3 and B&, and octeine. While argeine and caffeine (in the men’s version) stimulate blood microcirculation, SP94 provides the hair follicle with the nutrients and energy it needs to grow healthy hair; meanwhile, octeine rebalances the scalp, and vitamins B and B6 (in the women’s version) contribute to a normal hair growth cycle.
These treatment ampoules can also be supplemented with shampoo and conditioner from the same range, which also contain Aminexil.
Kérastase Genesis
You will also find a range with Aminexil at Kérastase: it’s the Genesis range, aimed at women who experience hair loss both due to loss at the root and hair breakage further down the lengths. In addition to Aminexil, the products in this range also feature Edelweiss native cells, to stimulate hair growth, and ginger root, to protect the scalp against external aggressions.
Within the range, the daily treatment products include the serum and the ampoules–it’s up to each woman to choose the format she prefers. Both products help preserve the scalp’s natural protective barrier, while strengthening the scalp and promoting better hair anchorage, thus helping to control hair loss originating from the roots. As in other Aminexil-based ranges, you can also complement the action of the serum or ampoules with a targeted shampoo and conditioner, which contain the same active ingredient:
Now that you know more about some of the best Aminexil products out there, you can decide which one is right for you. Just don’t forget that hair loss can be very difficult to prevent and treat: it takes a combination of the right products for hair loss and disciplined application to start seeing results. If the problem persists, always make sure to see a doctor who can help direct you towards the best course of treatment for you!
